Councillor Ron Mushiso, who represents Chiswick Gunnersbury, made his television debut last week appearing on Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine show.
The live talk show, known for covering current affairs, is presented by Chiswick resident, Jeremy Vine and has featured well-known guests including Owen Jones, Jordan Peterson, Anne Widdecombe, and Rachel Reilly. On Thursday 1st February, it was the turn of Cllr Mushiso in the spotlight alongside TV presenter Cherry Healey.
During the show, the guests discussed the recent chemical attack in Clapham, the compensation saga with the postmasters, knife crime, dangerous driving, and the public sentiments towards Nicola Sturgeon, the former SNP leader. Cllr Mushiso argued that Nicola Sturgeon was ‘more interested breaking up the union, above working in unison with the national government on a united response to the Covid-19 crisis’.
These diverse set of topics allowed Cllr Mushiso to engage with viewers who said they appreciated his ‘honesty and integrity’. In an email exchange shared by Cllr Mushiso, one viewer commented, “I watched you on Jeremy Vine today and was very impressed. Your life story is both traumatic but inspirational. Your views on knife crime are most people’s views as are your views on stop and search.”

After the broadcast, Cllr Mushiso expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, saying, “I was honoured to have the chance to discuss real-life issues and share my perspective on national television. Jeremy Vine was gracious in providing me with this platform, and I appreciated the opportunity.”
Cllr Mushiso will feature on the ballot paper as the Conservative GLA candidate for Hounslow, Kingston & Richmond in May’s mayoral elections.
